December 15th, 1966- Walt Disney dies on this day, saddening so many fans. He created Disney World, the first one located in California and now, there is one in Florida too. He was producing "The Jungle Book" one of his animated features. He was 65 when when he died in Burbank, California dying with Walt Disney World making so many people amused.

January 27th, 1967-In Cape Canaveral, Florida a program test is being tested with three very famous astronauts. Though, the launch pad catches on fire and all three of those astronauts, Virgil Gus Grissom, Edward H. White II, and Roger B. Chafee all are killed in this fire. People think there was a faulty electrical wire inside the Apollo 1 spacecraft which caused the fire. They were planning for the Apollo 1 launch in the next month when this tragedy occurred. They are still remembered by many people today.

April 4th, 1967- On this day, Martin Luther king Jr. addressed a speech for the anti-Vietnam war. The speech called, "Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence" was said Riverside Church in NY. MLK was saying how he was against the war and its policies; he thought it was useless. James Bevel, a Civil Rights Activist called it the most important speech of Martin Luther King. This speech was also called the "Riverside Church Speech" really spoke to the people if the Vietnam War was important or not and he proved it was worthless.

April 4th, 1968- On this day, Martin Luther King Jr. is assassinated in Memphis, TN. The day before, April 3rd he gave a speech, very pleasing following his death the next day. On April 4th, he was standing on a balcony when a sniper's bullet hit him. He was pronounced dead an hour later, dying at the age of 39. James Earl Ray had shot him, as he was racist and did not approve of MLK's ideas.

December 21st, 1968- On this date, NASA made an important dangerous do-se-d0 with the Apollo 8. Their mission was to launch astronauts to the moon and back. They took a very iconic close up picture of the moon and the Earth. It was a seven day flight and they sent the Apollo 8 up there without lunar module backup if something was to go wrong, which made it very dangerous. Jim Lovell, Bill Anders and Frank Borman were the crew members of the Apollo 8.

July 20th, 1969- Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins are the three astronauts sent to space in the Saturn V rocket. They were sent to outer space to go on the moon. Apollo 11 is in lunar orbit just three days later and the next day Armstrong and Aldrin climb into "Eagle", the lunar module and Collins climbs into, "Columbia", the command module. At 4:18 P.M. the module lands and at 10:56 P.M. Neil Armstrong puts the first human foot on the moon. "That one small step for a man and one giant leap for a mankind." They also put the American flag on the moon to honor the late Apollo 1 crew.
Summary- In this video, you are able to see the 1969 Santa Barbara tragical oil spill. In many pictures, you can see birds covered in oil. You can see how much oil had spread into the oceans at the time. Many people tried to help in every smallest way they could. The water was filled with thick oil making blue and green water into thick, black colored water. This ruined many lives of creatures including whales and this oil spill will be an unforgettable moment.

January 28th, 1969- On this day, in the Santa Barbara channel, a blowout erupted, spilling 3 million gallons of oil in the water. Birds were unable to fly, the shore was full of oil and thick water; it was a disaster. Many legislations had taken place to take care of our nature and make sure you are careful. People from all around the community came to help, using straws to soak up the oil. Till this day, some oil is still seen and bubbles are still forming from the oil spill that ruined the Santa Barbara channel in 1969.

April 22nd, 1970- Earth day was first celebrated on this day. John McConnell, a peace activist, decided to have a day to honor the Earth in a UNESCO conference. Earth day was originally on March 21st since this is the first day of Spring in the Northern hemisphere. Then a month later, US Senator Gaylord Nelson held an environmental teach-in on the 22nd, and this day soon became Earth day! It then became an international day in 1990 in 141 nations. Today, Earth day is celebrated on April 22nd to appreciate the Earth.
